Smile New Suspension needed! Need help!

Hey everyone, just had a few questions.

Im looking to get some performance struts/shocks and a good lowering spring..

my 98 cl 3.0 right now has KyB struts with ground control coilover sleeves...but they are all blown struts, and i am buying new struts this weekend and most likely will buy new springs soon too.. these kyb struts and gc springs have been on the car ever since i got it back last may.. and were put on by the former owner whenever he had it... anyways i digress..

what would be a good strut/shock and spring combo.. im looking for a smooth ride with some good handling!

last thing, i have seen things on this forum and others about how performance struts and springs that are for a 97-00 accord can also fit my 98 cl 3.0.. if this is true can someone please fill me in.. im not all that savy when it comes to this stuff so any help is appreciated!

Coilovers are better for sure, the shocks and springs are matched to work with each other. I went through 4 suspension setups before settling on my Tein SS-P's, however they are quite expensive. D2, K-Sport or Form and Function are good choices also.

Also, 94-97 accord suspension will fit, not 98-02 suspension parts

Hmmm I will take that into account it's appreciated! Also what if I just did struts and springs separate what combo would be best? I know koni yellows are great but spring wise what would be the best fit?

And I will take into account 94-97 accord suspension parts.. I haven't had any luck with finding koni yellows for my 98 cl3.0...I will have to look for 94-97 accord koni yellows as well!

If you want springs, check out Tein S-Techs

Hmmm ok ok...two things here

so I'm deciding koni yellow sports with tein s-techs or the tein basic coilovers...

But question.. I know the drop on the s-techs are 2.1 in front and 1.7 in back

My car right now on the kyb struts and ground control coilover conversion sit .25 in the gaps in the wheelwell.. I love the height I have, will I be able to have the same height when I put on the new set of which ever I choose??

That's the risk you run if you go springs, that's another reason I suggest coils, so you can adjust your height all around. Tein basics is a great set as well as long as you have the top hats from your current setup

Hmmm if you don't mind me asking what would you say the risk percentage is?? And another thing is is that I don't have too much to spend hence why I was gonna do a good strut and spring with the koni yellow sport adjustables and tein s-techs... My friend also told me to try the eibach sportlines..which I heard are great as well. I just want to have a smooth ride with good turning you know.. Coils would make for a stiffer ride or no?

Also, will performance springs (that are for a 2.2cl) fit on my 3.0 cl?

The risk, especially with a 3.0 is that the rear will sit lower than the front. Sportlines are good, but members who had a 3.0 said that the front was heavy and affected the ride. You can help negate this if you get adjustable shocks. But as far as ride quality, you don't get better than teins, but yes, 2.2 springs will fit a 3.0. All 3 sets of coilovers that I've owned were for a 2.x accord, and I put them right on my 3.0

Hmm alright I will deff go with the teins! I'm gonna use the koni yellow sport adjustable struts & shocks... Did anyone say how much lower the back would sit cuz I can always just put both front and rear at same height even if it's just a bit off

I will resort to gettin 2.2 parts if I can't find 3.0

I also was reading that a spring and strut set will handle well and give a smooth ride and that coilovers will do the same but might be a stiffer ride?? Is this true? I don't want too soft of a ride nor too stiff?? Any last suggestions?

Some coilovers will be stiffer than others. Teins ride super smooth

Just to give you some perspective, I went from stock, to Eibach springs, to Omni Power Coilovers, to D2 coilovers(same as ksport) to Tein SS-P's.

im in the process of getting new suspension as well..lol ive been riding on my setup for like 13 years. ive always liked my eibach pro kit with koni yellows. perfect for me i suppose...now that im about to purchase a new setup im a lil worried about how my ride is gonna be hahahah...i think the ONLY reason im getting coilovers is cause i like the idea of being able to adjust ride height. im one of those low and slow kinda guys so i dont do anything crazy like race with my car anyway.

let us know how those springs work for you. good luck

I will post a pic of my car on here in a bit and tomorrow take a pick of the ride height that I have now, in which I think is a perfect height.... What do I have to measure again tho? Is it ground to wheelwell or ground to side shirt? I don't want too slammed so I will show you what I have now

well it really depends on what kind of look youre going for. if you want to sit low nicely, or if you want to still be able to drive your car normally but still get rid of some fender gap, etc etc...then theres the kind of ride your looking to get. ride like your sittin on a cloud, average, stiff as hell...etc etc...

how was your ride when you first got your setup?...

Car looks good man, not a big fan of the m3 fender trim, but I love the dual muffler setup

Ya that m3 fender trim came with the car when I got it but I don't mind it gives it a unique look! I died laughin when I saw it on the car when I got it but then I spray painted it black. And sanded if and it goes well with my black rims

Well I'm trying to decide on either ground control set up, tein s-techs, or eibach sportlines.. I got koni struts which should be in tomorrow, but if I got with the eibachs or teins I'm debating getting the spring perch from koni so ill be able to adjust ride height with the springs. Any ideas?

OP : I've seen nothing but great reviews from the Koni yellow and ground control setup. Koni have a great warranty and with that combo you can get custom spring rates to your liking. It may be a little pricey but the quality of both products are far superior to any of the junk made in Taiwan.

I was considering the H&R Cup Kit or Koni Yellow/GC but ultimately went with Tanabe Pro S-OC 8k/4k (front and rear) because of an insane price that i was offered.

Believe it or not Omni are actually the same as D2 and K-sport too. I was wondering what coilovers you had. Good to see you have Teins.

I believe it, the omni's looked very similar to the d2's and k-sports minus the adjustable shocks

I've heard very mixed reviews about GC coils, the cup kit to adjust the springs is a great idea also

I have a 97 CL 3.0
Spent 2 days to read most of posts here and decided to go with TEIN Street Basis coilovers.
It's my first day to ride with TEIN coilovers.
Use stock shocks for 10 years and feel TEIN is a little bit to hard to me.
It's very low, drop 2.5"
